Preservation of audiovisual heritage

Archives, which are at the heart of Ina’s activities, represent a significant proportion of Ina SUP’s training and consulting activities abroad. Documentary engineering, format treatment, enhancement: Ina staff, all renowned experts in their fields, transmit their know-how during seminars, workshops or training sessions.

Consulting

Ina SUP is called upon all over the world to carry out appraisals of archival holdings. This involves evaluating existing systems, and providing advice and assistance on the setting up of preservation systems.

As an expert in the conservation and digitisation of radio and television archives, Ina analyses, carries out technical and documentary audits, advises and assists companies and institutions who wish to preserve their audiovisual heritage or to set up a legal deposit for radio-television.

These audits can also be used as a basis for the construction of buildings that will be devoted to the preservation of archives, as is the case of projects currently underway in Pakistan and in Algeria.

The Ina experts report can also be used by the relevant institution to explain the stakes involved and set out their recommendations vis-à-vis funding sources.

Seminars

Ina and Ina SUP are involved in raising awareness with respect to the need to preserve the world’s audiovisual heritage. To that end, lna has been organising seminars in partnership with foreign institutions since 2005. These seminars, which are now organised by Ina SUP, are aimed at organisations responsible for archives, and at decision-makers within television and radio broadcasters. They aim to present:
- the challenges involved in the preservation and digitisation of the audiovisual heritage
- the back-up practices, technologies and strategies available
- the methodologies applicable to archiving.
The seminars also enable participants to identify the external resources available to fund their projects, analyse the steps involved from design to setting up of the audiovisual archive, pool regional initiatives in audiovisual digitisation, and measure the impact of digitisation on the challenges faced in the preservation and management of archives.
These seminars are organised with the active support of the public and private sectors in the relevant country.
